So Brian and I went to eat at Chili's two weeks ago, on a Friday night. It's a 30 minute drive across the island, probably 40 min. total to Chili's and Chili's is located at the Pearlridge Mall -it's huge. There is an uptown and a downtown, there is a tram connecting the two, it has two huge parking decks and there are lot's of stores on the fringe of the mall, Toys-R-Us being one of them. So anyways, we went to Chili's. I LOVE the grilled carribean salad, guess what they don't serve anymore... It was a bit disappointing, Galina wasn't thrilled with the restaurant either, she was a little fussy, my guess is the noise and smell. So we left Chili's. We were going to drive another 15 minutes down the road to go to one of the two Wal-Marts on the island (both ACROSS the island from us, so it's a big deal to go to Wal-Mart) but as we were leaving the Chili's, we hit the curb and low and behold BOTH tires on the right side of the Wrangler blew...The sidewall tore on both - something was sticking out of the curb, but we couldn't see anything. So we looped back into the big parking structure, riding on rims, and pulled into the first parking spot we could get to - a 20 min. spot. Great. It started raining, of course. So the umbrella, Galina and I walked across the parking lot to Toys-R-Us, while Brian figured out what to do with the Jeep. Let me also say that we had no jack and no tools in the jeep. Somebody decided to empty it all out in to the garage for some unknown reason. About a half of a mile away was a Sear's, so Brian walked there, bought a jack and some tools, brought back one of the flats, put the spare on the front, bought a tire which they then put on the rim for us, and then at 7:30, after I had walked toys-r-us for almost four hours, we both walked to Sear's so that he could pick up the tire. He did, walked back to the Jeep, put it on and then drove over to Sear's to pick me up. It was 9:00 p.m. by then, and we drove home. Luckily the man at Sear's that sold Brian the jack and tools, told him to just bring them back when he was done and he'd refund him. THANK YOU! What I thought would be a $40 evening, for dinner, turned out to cost a great deal more, but not as much as it could have I guess. We got home safe, and realized that the jeep needs all new tires.
On top of the wrangler needing new tires, my jeep decided that it needed a new battery and a new starter. Both of which Brian fixed. Go babe! He replaced the starter all on his own, it works great. Hopefully that will be all that jeep needs for awhile, well that's a lie, it needs new tires too, already, but since I only drive it on base - and literally everywhere is within walking distance to our house, I'm not in any hurry for the tires.
But, the wrangler did need new tires, so it got goodyear mud terrains. Not what I had in mind, but the Sam's Club that we took it to had five of these tires in stock because someone special ordered them and then decided they didn't want them. So we offered them a much lower price to take four of the tires off their hands and they accepted it. So Brian got big, knobby tires on his Wrangler. Which we would not be heartbroken if someone bought (he's decided to try and sell it?). That's that, thank goodness.
But while Brian was fixing the starter in my jeep, I was wheeling the baby around, in and out of the house :) and he stopped to talk to her. She loves it! Some neighbor kids came to play with the dogs and they would pretend to throw the ball and thought it was hilarious when the dogs would look for it. I wasn't thrilled with that, but it was funny when they finally threw it, the dogs got it and wouldn't give it back or get near the kids. They said, "No thanks kid, we're done playing."
