Hidden Treasures

So this is our piano. It's an Acrosonic by Baldwin. I bought it off of craigslist awhile back for $250. We were told that it had a humidifier, which is great for Hawaii. We got the original bench. I don't think it was a top of the line model when it was made, which was sometime between 1953 and 1956 (based off of the serial #). Hasn't ever had any work done to it, that Mrs. Kattija-Ari could tell. It doesn't have ivory keys, but it is in really great condition. The white paint you see on the front is from moving it into our house and it getting a little too close to the doorway. I was told by the previous owner that it had always been in their family, they were from California and had moved it with them to HI 7 years ago. They had never had it tuned, weren't sure when the last time was.
Hiding beneath various keys were these little pieces of yellowed paper. At some point, someone had tried to learn to play the piano. And apparently they did not own scissors. Lint, dust, plenty of that stuff. A nickel from 1974, a penny from 1978 and one from 1979 and...

Yeah, so the humidifier that we were told was in there...not so much. There was a plug hanging out to back them up, but once we got a closer look - christmas lights. Who knows what the goal was behind them, but nevertheless, there they are. I wish I still had the guys info that I bought the piano from so that I could return them...

your piano is gorgeous...I love pianos but I love the yellow pieces of paper and money you found. What a treasure...I would put those into a shadow box and save them!! Great post!! I would just throw the lights away...unless they still worked, plug them in and see what they do!!

I showed this to Mom and Dad over the weekend and Dad even said that the Christmas lights definitely can work like a humidifier! Ha ha!! So what prompted you to look inside??
