Mess Night

Brian has been in Sergeant's Course for the past two months. He graduates this Friday and tonight was 'Mess Night' - don't ask me about the particulars because I have no clue. I know that it is a very structured event, Brian said there is a lot of sit-down and stand-up. I know that you also get "fined" for things. I'm not sure how that works, but I know that he had to pay $50 to go to it (required...) and then had to have another $10 on him to pay the fines. I think not drinking alcohol will result in a fine.

Of course, I'm sure it got off to a rough start for Brian. He had been planning on wearing his Alphas (the pickle-suit he calls it) but I thought he'd look better in his Blues - so I had to sew on his hash marks, then we had to search high and low for a belt buckle, which we never found and he ended up running up to the clothing store and buying one (I guarantee he's bought a new buckle every time he's had to look at his Blues these past 4 years!). Then, Galina and I followed him outside to say goodbye and as we watched him drive away, we turned to go inside and realized that we were locked out of the house. I ran back out and screamed "BRIAN!!" but to no avail. I eventually asked my neighbor if I could borrow her phone. Left him a message and 15 min. later he came back - which meant that he was almost 15 minutes late. Fine. Hopefully that's all that happens...he said instead of giving cash he was going to hand out post-it notes with IOU's written on them. I doubt that'll fly.

Well, sorry his eyes are shut in the picture. I only snapped one because Galina started crying at him. She didn't really like the uniform - personally there is a certain something I like... I'm hoping Brian will manage to sneak me home a piece of cheesecake, so I'm waiting up for it!
